Global Oncofertility Consortium

AFOC is one of the official committees of AFFS and member of the Global Oncofertility Consortium

Background

According to guidelines, Fertility preservation should be offered to any patient who did not accomplish his parenthood project, if the planned treatment associated with fertility reduction or loss

These conditions include oncological and non-oncological situations. Fertility preservation is safe and it is considered as important part of the quality of life of cancer survivors (1)

Building a fertility preservation program, especially in developing countries, may be challenging as it requires a legal field, a well-established cryopreservation technology, a well-established network, reimbursement system and full collaboration and awareness of Oncologists and other specialists.

In Africa, there are some examples of countries that installed a efficient fertility preservation programs but there is urgent need for a more comprehensive extension of this health offer in order to offer this procedure to African Patients (2-4)

Sharing experiences and mutual support is critical in this field
